Honda’s Chinese division unveiled its mid-size electric vehicle, the P7, on April 16. According to Chinese tech outlet IT Home, GAC Honda Automobile—a joint venture between Honda and China’s GAC Group—showcased the P7 at its newly completed eco-friendly vehicle plant in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. This facility is part of Honda’s strategy to boost its competitiveness in China’s rapidly growing EV market. The plant has an annual production capacity of 120,000 units and represents a 3.5 billion CNY investment (approximately 479.5 million USD).

Honda emphasized quality in the P7’s development, conducting over 1.5 million kilometers (932,000 miles) of road testing across four years under global manufacturing standards. The P7 was tested under extreme conditions: 240,000 kilometers (149,000 miles) in marine environments, 240,000 kilometers (149,000 miles) across various road types in China, and 720,000 kilometers (447,000 miles) on unpaved roads. Daily driving scenarios—including city and highway travel—were also part of the testing process.

P7 Dimensions Rival Porsche Macan: Exterior Design Highlights

Built on Honda’s dedicated EV platform, W Architecture, the P7 is 4,750 mm (187 in) long, 1,930 mm (76 in) wide, and 1,625 mm (64 in) high, with a 2,930 mm (115 in) wheelbase. It is slightly shorter and narrower than Tesla’s Model Y. Still, it offers a longer wheelbase, positioning it firmly within the mid-size SUV class alongside models like the Porsche Macan and Kia Sorento.

The exterior features a modern design that emphasizes aerodynamic performance. It includes C-shaped lamps, side-view cameras that replace traditional mirrors, and a sleek LED light bar. A light-sensitive, illuminated Honda emblem sits prominently on the hood, enhancing visibility even at night. Split taillights, intricately styled aluminum wheels, and detailed metallic accents contribute to the vehicle’s upscale appearance. Its wide stance and low-slung profile improve visual appeal and reduce air resistance for greater efficiency.

Performance and Range: Up to 469 HP, 650 km (404 miles) on a Single Charge

The P7 features a CATL 89.9 kWh battery pack. Under Chinese testing standards, the rear-wheel-drive version offers a range of 650 km (404 miles). The all-wheel-drive model adds a front motor for a total output of 469 hp (350 kW) and still achieves a range of 620 km (385 miles). Advanced lighting technology, including adaptive high and low beams, enhances nighttime visibility without compromising safety for other road users.

The interior features a tech-forward experience with a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, and a 10.25-inch secondary display. The premium BOSE sound system features speakers integrated into the headrests. Additional comforting features like AI-powered ambient lighting and a head-up display create a luxurious and user-friendly environment for drivers and passengers.

Tech-Packed and Well-Priced: Honda P7’s Market Strategy

The P7 includes Honda Sensing adaptive cruise control, anti-glare headlights, a spacious and open driving area, and a trunk height of 704 mm (27.7 inches), designed for easy access. A foot-sensing power tailgate also allows for hands-free use, providing comfort and convenience for drivers and passengers. With Honda Sensing, the P7 offers a safer driving experience.

The P7 is priced between 199,900 CNY (approximately 28,000 USD) and 249,900 CNY (approximately 35,000 USD), making it more affordable than the Tesla Model Y. It follows Honda’s earlier e:N models and is part of the new Ye series, which includes the Ye P7 and Ye S7—now called P7 and S7.
