Kia’s All-Electric PV5 Powers into the UK with Practicality at Its Core

Kia UK has announced the specifications and pricing for the brand’s first dedicated all-electric commercial vehicle, the Kia PV5 Cargo, with pre-orders starting on Thursday.

The Kia PV5 lineup consists of three commercial models—Cargo, Crew, and Chassis Cab—as well as Passenger and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) variants. In the UK, the L2/H1 configuration will initially be available for the Cargo and Crew models, and the L2 configuration for the Chassis Cab. Additional Cargo models in L1/H1 and L2/H2 specifications are scheduled for release in 2026.

The trims are simplified into two options: Essential and Plus. Customers can choose between a Standard battery (51.5 kWh) and a Long-Range battery (71.2 kWh). The Standard battery, being lighter, allows for higher payload capacity, while the Long-Range version is better suited for customers prioritizing extended driving range.

The front-wheel-drive electric motor delivers a maximum output of 89.4 kW for the Standard battery model and 120 kW for the Long-Range version, both offering 250 Nm of torque to ensure excellent towing performance.

The Kia PV5 features a 400V fast-charging system, allowing a charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes using a 150 kW rapid charger. Built on Kia’s E-GMP.S dedicated EV platform, the vehicle boasts a rear load floor height of only 419 mm and a turning radius of 10.8 meters, ensuring agile maneuverability in tight spaces.

All Cargo, Crew, and Chassis Cab models come with two seats—driver and passenger—upholstered in dark blue fabric. The cabin includes a 12.9-inch central display based on the Android Automotive OS, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Drivers can access key information with minimal eye movement through a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster.

Pricing and Launch Timeline

The Essential trim of the PV5 Cargo model with the Standard battery starts at approximately 27,645 GBP (36,780 USD), while the Long-Range battery model is priced at around 30,145 GBP (40,100 USD). With the UK government’s Plug-in Van Grant (PIVG), customers may receive up to a 5,000 GBP discount.

Pre-orders begin on Thursday, and initial customer deliveries are expected by the end of 2025. Detailed pricing for the PV5 Crew and Chassis Cab models will be announced in the second half of the year.

Kia is making a serious push into the electric commercial vehicle market with the PV5. Until now, dedicated platform-based electric vans have been rare in the mass market. Through the E-GMP.S platform, Kia has secured practical value with a low-floor design, ample cargo space, and a variety of body configurations.

What stands out is the availability of different battery and payload options. This setup caters to the diverse needs of business customers using electric vans for work purposes, underscoring that the PV5 is more than just an eco-friendly model—it delivers real commercial utility.

As restrictions on internal combustion engine vans in urban areas expand across the UK and Europe, and as local governments and logistics companies accelerate their shift to electrification, the PV5 is well-positioned to become a leading commercial EV with its competitive pricing, fast charging, and practical usability.

Attention should also be paid to the potential rollout of PV5-based derivative models in a range of global markets, including Europe, South Korea, North America, and the Middle East.
