Genesis G80 Stays Ahead — Fresh Design, Electric Power, and High-Tech Comfort

The South Korean midsize sedan market has recently shifted toward more upscale models, beginning with Hyundai’s all-new Grandeur in November 2022, followed by the facelifted Genesis G80 in the first half of 2024, and Kia’s refreshed K8 in the latter half of the year.

Since its debut in March 2020, the Genesis G80 has set new benchmarks in design, performance, and customer service, securing a strong position in the luxury sedan market despite growing competition. The latest facelift builds on its legacy with significant upgrades, including the addition of an electric vehicle (EV) version and a Black Edition to cater to diverse customer preferences.

Design Evolution: Elegance Meets Modern Technology

The updated G80’s dynamic and elegant design is now enhanced with MLA-type headlamps and a double-mesh crest grille. These design elements offer a more refined and high-tech appearance, exemplifying how Genesis continues to evolve its vehicles with the latest design language. The double-mesh grille contributes to the vehicle’s luxurious aesthetic, reinforcing the G80’s premium positioning.

Responding to the industry’s shift towards electrification, Genesis introduced an all-electric G80 model. Equipped with dual motors and an 87.2 kWh battery, the G80 EV delivers robust performance and an impressive range. It can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes using a 350 kW charger, making it a practical choice for eco-conscious luxury buyers. Additionally, the G80 EV supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, enabling it to supply power to external devices, further enhancing its appeal.

The G80 Black Edition: A Sportier, Exclusive Option

In late 2023, Genesis introduced the G80 Black Edition, which features glossy black 20-inch wheels, dark gray Genesis lettering, and an interior with black finishes and exclusive materials. The sporty, sophisticated look of the Black Edition has received positive consumer feedback and strengthens the G80’s position in the luxury segment.

Customer-Centric Features and Global Expansion

Genesis continues prioritizing customer satisfaction with various options and services, including advanced safety and driver assistance technologies. The G80’s interior layout, emphasizing comfort, ensures a premium experience for passengers. Genesis’s commitment to enhancing the EV experience with advanced charging technology and modern conveniences has made the G80 a strong contender in the global market.

The G80’s EV variant, in particular, is gaining attention as an eco-friendly luxury sedan, boosting Genesis’s global profile. Despite its premium features, the G80 is competitively priced, with the 2.5L gasoline turbo base model starting at around $58,450, the G80 EV priced at approximately $76,225, and the G80 Black Edition beginning at ₩87,050,000 (approximately $96,300).

As a successor to the full-size Genesis G90, the G80 remains a leading choice in the midsize luxury sedan category. With continuous updates and the introduction of special models like the Black Edition and EV, Genesis is ensuring that the G80 remains competitive and relevant in the global market, meeting the evolving needs of today’s luxury car buyers.
