A recent survey has unveiled that Tesla and Rivian boast the most dependable electric vehicle (EV) charging networks in the United States.

On Tuesday, TechCrunch reported that Consumer Reports, a U.S. market research firm, conducted a comprehensive survey on electric vehicle charging networks between February and March 2024. The study included responses from approximately 1,230 EV owners.

The results revealed that Tesla and Rivian emerged as the clear frontrunners regarding reliability. 96% of respondents reported no issues with Tesla’s Supercharger network, while 95% had trouble-free experiences with Rivian’s high-speed Adventure Network.

In contrast, Shell’s Recharge network received the most criticism, with 48% of respondents reporting problems. EVgo and Blink didn’t fare much better, with 43% and 41% of users experiencing issues, respectively. Electrify America and ChargePoint also struggled, with 35% and 24% of users reporting difficulties, respectively.

Industry experts weren’t surprised by Tesla’s strong performance, attributing it to its decade-long investment in its Supercharger network, allowing it to address technical issues over time. Rivian’s equally impressive reliability suggests they’ve learned from Tesla’s playbook. The challenge now is maintaining that high standard as they expand to 500 additional charging stations,” an industry expert added.

Despite these advancements, the EV market shows signs of cooling. Cox Automotive, a leading U.S. automotive research firm, reports that while EVs captured over 8% of U.S. vehicle sales last year, growth rates have begun to plateau. Consumer Reports highlighted that the most prevalent issues plaguing charging networks involve payment processing and hardware malfunctions, with screen-related problems being particularly common.
