Slate Auto unveiled its second electric vehicle (EV) model, preparing to make another significant impact in the EV market. After releasing teaser footage of a pickup truck model, the company has introduced a new SUV style. This new model, with an exterior reminiscent of the classic Range Rover, attracted significant attention from online communities.

The company behind the release is Slate Auto, an EV startup backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Slate Auto is focused on maximizing value for money, with plans to offer a practical EV priced around 25,000 USD. The vehicle was officially unveiled recently, with a full market launch expected in 2026.

Retro Charm Meets Modern Functionality

The newly spotted SUV from Slate Auto features a modern reimagining of the classic Range Rover silhouette. With its sharp, compact body, sloping rear window, and boxy shape focused on practicality, it evokes nostalgia for classic SUVs from the 1970s and 1980s.

This exterior also recalls the hatchback-style crossover silhouette of the recently discussed Rivian R3, but with a stronger focus on practicality and rugged utility. The closed front grille hints that the vehicle is electric, and the charging port appears to be located at the rear.

Slate Auto’s SUV goes beyond just retro styling. Based on an electric platform, it maximizes interior space and prioritizes practicality for everyday use. In other words, while the design draws inspiration from the past, its functionality aligns perfectly with modern EV standards.

Expanding the Lineup

Value Proposition Remains Key

Slate Auto showcased a pickup truck model through teaser videos and social media. The vehicle is expected to cost a little under 27,500 USD, and despite being an EV, it gained attention for its excellent value for money. The newly introduced SUV model will also share the same electric platform and is expected to be priced similarly at a competitive rate.

This price competitiveness is expected to significantly influence purchasing decisions, especially in the North American market, where the shift to EV is accelerating. Slate Auto’s marketing approach is also unconventional. The teaser video recently released features fictional companies like The Feline Therapist and Cry Share, sparking consumer curiosity.

As part of the teaser campaign, the website revealed that the SUV is a creation of Slate Auto. It was officially announced on April 24, when more details about the SUV’s specifications, platform, and pricing were disclosed. Industry attention is focused on how this classic SUV-inspired model will impact the EV market, offering great value for money.
