China’s Jetour T2 Takes Aim at Global Markets With New 7-Seat Version

Chinese automotive brand Jetour officially launched the long-body version of its mid-size SUV, the T2, introducing a new option to the Chinese seven-seat SUV market. With a 249mm (9.8 inches) increase in length compared to the standard model, the T2 now matches the size of the Hyundai Palisade, offering enhanced space utilization with the addition of a third-row seat. The vehicle has gasoline and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options.

The long-body model retains the existing 2,800 mm (110.2 inches) wheelbase while extending the rear overhang to maximize interior space. This design may make the rear appear somewhat bulky, but it prioritizes practicality. The vehicle is 2,006 mm (78.9 inches) wide and 1,880 mm (74.2 inches) high, the same as the original model. The ground clearance has been slightly reduced, with the gasoline version at 220mm (8.7 inches) and the PHEV version between 201 and 205mm (7.9 and 8.1 inches).

Third-Row Seat and 1,653 Liters of Cargo Space

The most notable feature of the long-body version is the addition of a two-passenger third-row seat, which is primarily suited for children. The seat can be folded down when not in use to provide additional trunk space. When the second and third rows are folded, a maximum cargo space of 1,653 liters (58.4 cubic feet) is available, making it ideal for camping or long trips. The swing-type tailgate also includes a device to secure items like thermoses.

The driver’s seat area remains the same as the standard T2 model, with the overall interior design and convenience features carrying over from the base model. This maintains a familiar environment for existing users while adding new functionalities, which has been positively received.

The gasoline model, Traveler Extended, has a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 254 horsepower and 390 Nm (287 lb-ft) of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive system features a clutch-based all-wheel-drive distribution, and the top speed is 190 km/h (118 mph). It is priced at 179,900 CNY (approximately 35,100 USD) in China.

The PHEV model, Shanhai T2 Extended, is offered in two drivetrain configurations. The base model features front-wheel drive, combining a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine (156 horsepower or 116 kW) with a 224-horsepower electric motor. It has a 26.7 kWh battery, offering a range of 120 km (74.6 miles) on pure electric mode. It costs 194,900 CNY (approximately 38,000 USD).

The higher-trim all-wheel drive PHEV model adds a separate electric motor for the rear wheels, bringing the combined output to 462 horsepower and a maximum torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). It also has a 43.24 kWh battery, providing a pure electric range of 206 km (128 miles) based on the CLTC standard. It is priced at 229,900 CNY (approximately 44,900 USD).

Jetour T2: Palisade-Sized and Aiming for the Global Market

The Jetour T2 long-body version is 5,034mm (198.3 inches) long, which is 26mm (1 inch) shorter than the Hyundai Palisade (5,060mm or 199.6 inches). The T2 is 2,006mm (78.9 inches) wide, 26mm (1 inch) wider than the Palisade (1,980mm or 78.0 inches), and its height is 1,880mm (74.2 inches), 75mm (2.95 inches) higher than the Palisade (1,805mm or 71.2 inches). Overall, the T2 shows similar dimensions to the Palisade, offering generous interior space.

Jetour, part of the Chery Automobile Group, strengthens its brand competitiveness with the T2. The T2 was first launched in Russia in March of last year and is sold as the Traveler in China. The PHEV version is part of the Shanhai T2 and is included in Jetour’s electric lineup, the Shanhai series. The long-body version may also be launched in other markets, including Russia, focusing on gasoline models.

Also, Jetour expands its product portfolio by launching the sub-brand Zongheng for off-road SUVs and pickup trucks, marking a move into the frame-based vehicle segment. As competition in the Chinese automotive market intensifies, Jetour’s product diversification strategy is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening its position in the local market. With the introduction of the long-body model, Jetour’s competitiveness in the Chinese SUV market is set to increase.
