A new Chinese premium SUV is poised to disrupt the automotive industry. Denza, a luxury brand under BYD, unveiled its latest flagship model, the N9 Black Warrior Edition, following the successful launch of the original N9 last year.

This new model, featuring an all-black exterior that commands attention, will debut in Europe and is already drawing strong interest from industry insiders.

The Denza N9 Black Warrior Edition makes a bold impression with its size.

It is 5,258 mm long, 2,030 mm wide, and 1,830 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm. It surpasses midsize SUVs like the Genesis GV80, Hyundai Palisade, and Kia Telluride. Its dimensions are similar to full-size luxury SUVs such as the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Cadillac Escalade, making it stand out in the SUV market.

The Black Warrior Edition’s standout feature is its all-black exterior. The high-gloss black finish and dark alloy wheels create a bolder look than the regular model, and the thick wraparound taillights add to its upscale appearance.

Denza officials stated that the front end, which previously appeared layered, now looks cleaner and more unified with the black color scheme.

The N9 Black Warrior Edition retains the original plug-in hybrid system, combining a gasoline engine with three electric motors. At its highest specification, the system delivers 925 horsepower.

This places it in direct competition with top European luxury brands, highlighting the rapid advancement of Chinese automotive technology.

The vehicle has a 46.9 kWh blade battery, offering about 200 km (124 miles) of electric-only range under Chinese standards. Combined with the combustion engine, the total range exceeds 1,300 km (808 miles). Fuel efficiency is rated at 15.8 km/L (approximately 37 mpg), which is impressive for a vehicle of this size.

Denza emphasizes the N9’s practicality. It supports fast charging, with a 30% to 80% charge achieved in just 19 minutes.

Built on BYD’s latest e3 platform, the N9 features an advanced semi-autonomous driving system called God’s Eye B.

The vehicle uses a range of LiDAR, radar, and ultrasonic sensors to support its driver assistance features. It also includes Tank Turn and Crab Walk modes and rear-wheel steering, allowing easy maneuvering in city streets and on rough terrain.

The system supports automatic emergency braking at speeds up to 110 km/h (68 mph) at night and offers multi-directional auto parking. These features help reduce driver fatigue, even with the large SUV.

The N9 keeps the same premium layout as the standard model, with a 2+2+2 seating arrangement that comfortably seats six people.

Amenities include a 13.2-inch display for the front passenger, a 17.1-inch screen mounted on the ceiling, a sliding refrigerator, and seats that can convert into beds. The first and second rows can be folded flat to create a roomy rest space, offering all the comforts expected in a luxury SUV.

Price and Market Expansion

The N9 Black Warrior Edition starts at 389,800 CNY (approximately $54,000) in China. This competitive pricing undercuts similarly equipped European luxury SUVs.

Denza plans to launch the model in Europe in April, marking a strong push into the European market.

The N9 Black Warrior Edition is more than just a special edition SUV; with its imposing size, powerful performance, and competitive pricing, it’s ready to establish itself as a new force in the premium market.

The automotive industry is watching closely to see how this Chinese luxury brand will fare in the European market, which is traditionally dominated by established marques like Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
