At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, Honda introduced new models from its China-exclusive electric vehicle (EV) brand, Ye. The GAC Honda GT and Dongfeng Honda GT were revealed, representing a strategic collaboration between Japanese technology and local Chinese manufacturers. This partnership signals Honda’s new approach to expanding its presence in the global market.

The two models showcased feature completely distinct designs, platforms, and technologies. Although both vehicles are based on Honda’s dedicated EV platform, the e:N Architecture W, they are produced by different manufacturers, resulting in clearly differentiated styles. Honda aims to strengthen its presence in the Chinese EV market with this GT lineup.

Emphasizing a sleek and seamless futuristic aesthetic

The GAC Honda GT is designed around seamless and sophisticated smart futurism. Its low and wide body ratio, combined with a gracefully extended roofline, makes a striking impression. The aerodynamic details and sharp lines contribute to a refined aesthetic. The two-tone exterior and new Honda emblem create a visual distinction from existing global models.

The interior has an immersive cockpit structure, making it feel like you are sitting in a racing machine. It includes six screens, featuring a dashboard, central infotainment system, gear selector area, and a dedicated passenger panel. While the driver’s engagement is enhanced, the excessive use of digital screens has sparked controversy.

The powertrain features an 89.8 kWh CATL battery and is available with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive systems. The single-motor model produces up to 268 horsepower, while the dual-motor model generates 469 horsepower. The rear-wheel-drive model offers a range of approximately 650 km (403 miles) under the CLTC standard. Combining an advanced platform with high-performance electric drivetrains, the GAC Honda GT can be summarized as a technology-driven performance sedan.

In contrast, the Dongfeng Honda GT showcases a design that expresses emotional and dynamic futurism. It features a striking front end and pronounced character lines. The angular taillights and sporty bumper embody Honda’s signature aggressive vibe, aiming for an emotionally appealing design for a sports EV.

Although the technical layout resembles the GAC Honda, the interior focuses more on intuitive display arrangements and emotionally engaging materials. Digital side mirrors enhance visibility, while the driver-centric console layout and thinner bezel displays provide a unique feel. This design minimizes eye movement for passengers, emphasizing driving stability.

Like the GAC Honda, the Dongfeng Honda GT uses a CATL battery, maintaining a driving range of around 620 km (385 miles) and high output. However, while the GAC Honda feels more refined, the Dongfeng Honda is set up to be more agile and dynamic, distinguishing itself in driving characteristics. Both models feature AI-based autonomous driving and smart infotainment systems, developed in collaboration with local Chinese IT companies, which is also a key highlight.
