Jetour, the premium SUV brand under China’s Chery Automobile, has introduced the new Shangha L9, a model poised to disrupt the competitive SUV market. With a striking design, impressive performance, and a price tag starting at just $25,000, the Shangha L9 offers “value for money” in a way that’s becoming increasingly rare in the premium SUV market.

Exterior Design Rivals Luxury Imports

The Shangha L9’s exterior is a testament to Jetour’s commitment to luxury, featuring a sleek and modern design. Measuring nearly 5 meters (196.9 inches) in length, the SUV maintains its commanding presence while evolving with a redesign that incorporates contemporary trends, such as electric vehicle (EV) -inspired aesthetics. The chrome grille has been replaced with a refined matte black panel, giving the vehicle a more sophisticated, upscale appearance.

The rear now features a full-width LED taillight that further enhances its premium look, while the lower cladding is now body-colored, eliminating any budget-friendly appearance. Industry insiders have noted that the design alone would be worth at least $38,000 without the “Made in China” label, highlighting the exceptional value Jetour offers.

Interior Overhaul Brings Affordable Luxury

The interior redesign is equally impressive. Most notably, the gear selector has been relocated to a column-mounted electronic shifter behind the steering wheel, clearing space in the center console.

This redesign improves storage capacity and gives the cabin a more open, refined feel. The seat covers are made from premium materials that offer visual appeal and a satisfying tactile feel. A hidden folding table in the passenger seat adds practical convenience.

The seating options are also noteworthy. In addition to five- and seven-seat configurations, a new six-seat layout with second-row captain’s chairs is now available.

Strong Performance at a Competitive Price

The Shangha L9 delivers impressive performance. It uses a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system that combines a 156-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with dual electric motors, generating 427 horsepower.

Its 19.43 kWh battery enables near-electric driving for urban commutes. However, its front-wheel-drive configuration may be a drawback for some buyers. If an all-wheel-drive option were introduced, it could significantly broaden its appeal.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the Shangha L9 is its price. With Chinese pre-orders starting at 169,900 CNY (approximately $25,000), the L9 offers a combination of luxury features and performance at a price that undercuts many of its competitors. Some analysts predict that the official launch price may be lower, further enhancing its value proposition.

With pre-orders already open and strong interest from budget-conscious luxury consumers, the Jetour Shangha L9 is poised to impact the global premium SUV market significantly.
