In China, a compact SUV similar in size to the Kia Sportage is drawing attention due to its competitive pricing. Geely Automobile’s Boyue L returns with a full redesign for its fourth generation. Set to launch this month, newly released photos have generated considerable consumer interest. The redesign includes updates to the exterior, interior, infotainment, and powertrain options.
The Boyue L has been popular in China for its practicality and affordability, starting at 115,700 CNY (approximately $16,000). With this new generation, Geely aims to strengthen its position in the competitive compact SUV market by refining existing strengths and increasing consumer appeal.

Larger Dimensions and Updated Exterior Design
The updated Boyue L is larger than before. It is now 4,730 mm (186.2 in) long, 1,910 mm (75.2 in) wide, and 1,710 mm (67.3 in) high, and it has a wheelbase of 2,785 mm (109.6 in). In comparison, the Kia Sportage is 4,685 mm (184.4 in) long, 1,865 mm (73.4 in) wide, 1,660–1,680 mm (65.4–66.1 in) high, and has a 2,755 mm (108.5 in) wheelbase.
The front features a large inverted-triangle grille with slim LED headlights and a 2.4-meter (94.5 in) LED light bar that spans the top. Lower bumper accents and plastic body cladding highlight the SUV’s sporty styling.
At the rear, the license plate is now located lower on the bumper, and the taillights are redesigned for a cleaner look. A sloping window line toward the rear gives the vehicle a sportier appearance. Geely introduces a refreshed design theme with gold and gray interior color schemes.

15.4-Inch Infotainment Display and Comfort Features
The dashboard is designed to wrap around the driver and features a 15.4-inch infotainment display. It runs on a dedicated automotive chipset and supports AI-based voice recognition, delivering a modern user experience. The front seats offer six-way power adjustment, lumbar support, and extendable thigh support, with heating, ventilation, and massage functions to enhance comfort during long drives. The interior focuses on integrating advanced features while maintaining user-friendly controls and comfort.
Powertrain options include a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, generating 181 horsepower and 29.5 kgf.m (213.4 lb-ft) of torque, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 218 horsepower and 33.1 kgf.m (239.6 lb-ft) of torque. Both are paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive layout, offering a quiet ride and good fuel efficiency.
While the hybrid and electric SUV markets are growing rapidly in China, Geely continues to improve its internal combustion SUV lineup. The industry watches closely to see if the new Boyue L, offering a blend of value and upscale features, can once again make a strong impact in the SUV market.
