Mercedes-Benz introduced the third-generation CLA on Friday, featuring significant updates in design and technology. The front grille includes 142 triangular star patterns, and an illuminated three-pointed star logo is positioned at the center. The daytime running lights also adopt a star-shaped design. A lighting bar connects the headlamps, reflecting Mercedes’ signature EV styling.

The new CLA incorporates the latest AI-powered MBUX system. It is built on a dedicated EV platform and is available in both internal combustion and electric versions.

Futuristic Interior with Expanded Space

The interior of the new CLA is designed as a futuristic digital cockpit. It features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and a 14-inch center display dominating the dashboard. An additional 14-inch passenger display completes the MBUX Super Screen, emphasizing touchscreen controls while minimizing physical buttons.

The new CLA has also grown in size, measuring 4,722 mm (185.9 inches) long and having a wheelbase of 2,789 mm (109.8 inches). Thus, it provides more interior space than its predecessor. These updates enhance both style and practicality.

ChatGPT and Google AI Enhance User Interaction

Mercedes-Benz introduces its MB.OS operating system in the new CLA, which features the fourth-generation MBUX system powered by MB.OS. The system integrates ChatGPT 4.0 and Google AI, allowing natural voice interactions with the vehicle. Users can ask, “Hey Mercedes, what’s a black hole?” and receive a detailed response.

The MBUX virtual assistant recognizes user emotions and adjusts animations, colors, and movements to create a more intuitive interface.

Electric Model with 492-mile Range

The all-electric CLA 250+ and CLA 350 feature an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides a maximum range of 792 km (492 miles) on a single charge under WLTP standards.

The fast-charging system has been improved, allowing a 10-minute charge to add up to 325 km (202 miles) of range. The 800V electrical architecture supports charging speeds of up to 320 kW. Energy density has increased by 20% than previous models, while the battery cell’s carbon footprint has been reduced by 30%. The new CLA is also the first Mercedes EV to feature a front trunk.

Mercedes-Benz plans to release the new CLA globally next year. The electric models will launch first, followed by the 48V mild hybrid versions later in the year.

Mercedes-Benz describes the new CLA as “the brand’s most intelligent car ever.” The model showcases advancements in design and technology, and the industry is closely watching how consumers will respond.
