As the global electric vehicle market increasingly competes, NIO’s sub-brand, ONVO, introduced the L90. The L90 features substantial proportions, measuring 5,145 mm (202.5 in) in length with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm (122.4 in).

Despite its affordability, the L90 delivers notable performance with 590 horsepower. Recently disclosed via China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the L90 will officially debut at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show.

Six-Seater with High Output Power
Exploring the L90’s Specifications

Although ONVO is intended to appeal to a wider customer base than the NIO brand, the L90 offers strong performance credentials. Its dual-motor configuration, one motor on each axle, produces 590 horsepower.

The front motor generates 100 kW (approximately 136 hp), while the rear motor delivers 340 kW (approximately 462 hp). This output level is notable for a vehicle in the affordable segment. The L90’s top speed is limited to 200 km/h (124 mph) for safety reasons.

The L90’s size matches that of a full-size SUV. The vehicle is 5,145 mm (202.5 in) long, 1,998 mm (78.6 in) wide, and 1,766 mm (69.5 in) high, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm (122.4 in). It offers a spacious interior layout. Standard wheels are 20 inches, with optional 21-inch wheels also available, enhancing the vehicle’s premium appearance.

Futuristic Design Aims to Revitalize the Brand

The L90’s styling features distinctive design elements. At the front, slim, dual-line LED headlights emphasize a futuristic look. The side profile highlights smooth, flowing character lines that convey a dynamic look, while the rear adopts full-width taillights consistent with current trends.

In line with Chinese market preferences, ONVO will offer various battery types, including nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) options. The vehicle also supports NIO’s battery-swapping system. While specific battery capacities have not been released, industry sources anticipate competitive range capabilities.

ONVO encountered several business challenges recently, including missed sales goals that prompted leadership changes. The L90 is positioned as a strategic product to help meet NIO Group’s overall target of 440,000 vehicle sales by 2025, with ONVO responsible for half that volume. The model’s success could be key in shaping ONVO’s position in the evolving EV marketplace.
