Aidan Gomez, co-founder and CEO of AI startup Cohere, has been appointed to the board of directors at electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian.
On Tuesday, tech news outlet TechCrunch reported that Rivian has expanded its board and elected Gomez to serve until 2026. This move signals Rivian’s ongoing strategy to establish itself as a software leader and supplier in the automotive industry while also exploring the potential of AI applications in its operations.
Gomez has built a reputation as a seasoned data scientist and AI expert. In 2019, he co-founded Cohere with Nick Frost and Ivan Zhang, specializing in enterprise-grade AI and machine learning solutions. Before launching Cohere, Gomez served as a researcher at Google Brain, the tech giant’s deep learning division, which was led by Nobel laureate Geoffrey Hinton.
Rivian has been developing an AI assistant for its electric vehicles since 2023, a project separate from its joint venture with Volkswagen.
