Volvo’s next-generation flagship electric SUV, the EX90, was selected as the most luxurious vehicle of the year at the 2025 World Car Awards, an internationally prestigious event held ahead of the New York International Auto Show.

In particular, the EX90, which contains the Scandinavian design philosophy, was highly praised for its luxurious interior space that applied cutting-edge safety technology and eco-friendly materials.

The World Car Awards, now in its 21st year, is considered the most credible automobile awards ceremony, with a jury of 96 automobile journalists from 30 countries around the world selecting the winners through a secret vote each year.

This year, awards were given in six categories for models from around the world, and the EX90 was selected as the World Luxury Car after receiving high marks for its comfortable and sophisticated interior, cutting-edge safety technology, and unique Scandinavian design.

It is particularly significant in that it won the title, beating out the Porsche Panamera and Porsche Macan, which were finalists in the World Luxury Car category.

Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson expressed satisfaction with the recognition of the EX90, noting that the award demonstrates the vehicle’s appeal to discerning customers worldwide.

In the case of the Volvo EX90, it is Volvo’s flagship pure electric 3-row SUV released in 2023, and it competes with the Tesla Model X, Kia EV9, and Rivian R1S in the North American and European markets.

In terms of body size, it features a proud body with a length of 5,038 mm (198.3 inches), a width of 1,964 mm (77.3 inches), and a height of 1,744 mm (68.7 inches) and a long wheelbase of 2,985 mm (117.5 inches), securing ample interior space, and fully reflecting the basic philosophy of Scandinavian design that form follows function.

In the case of the front, it is designed with a proud yet smooth curve to minimize air resistance, and elements such as flush-processed side glazing are reflected to maximize aerodynamic efficiency.

In terms of powertrain, it is a twin motor configuration with AWD, and the basic model delivers a powerful performance of 408 horsepower, and the performance model delivers a powerful performance of 517 horsepower.

It is also equipped with a 111kWh battery, securing a driving range of up to 585 km (364 miles) based on WLTP and about 300~310 miles (about 482km~498 km) based on EPA, and its charging performance is also excellent, allowing it to be charged from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes with a DC 250kW rapid charger.

The price is set at 81,290 USD to 96,400 USD depending on the trim in North America, and it is scheduled to be launched in the South Korean market in the third or fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Volvo has won a total of three World Car Awards, including the Luxury Car of the Year award for the EX90, the World Car of the Year award for the XC60 in 2018, and the World Urban Car award for the EX30 in 2024.
