Hyundai Motor’s compact SUV, the Tucson, is on track to become the third model within the Hyundai Group to surpass 10 million units in cumulative sales this year. This milestone marks a first for any SUV in the company’s lineup.

Industry analysts note that with most sales coming from international markets, this achievement further cements Hyundai’s global market position.

Since its debut in March 2004, Tucson has sold 9,639,991 units. As of January this year, the 10 million mark is expected to be reached by mid-2025.

Only Elantra and Accent have exceeded 10 million units in lifetime sales in the U.S. auto market. As of January, the Elantra has sold 15,531,143 units, while the Accent has reached 10,443,452 units.

Since its introduction, Tucson has performed exceptionally well in international markets, with over 90% of its total sales generated overseas. In 2022, the model reached 579,037 units in global sales, accounting for 91.3% of its total sales. 151,171 units were exported from South Korea, and 427,866 units were manufactured at Hyundai’s global production facilities.

Tucson has been particularly successful in the U.S. market, with 209,624 units sold in 2022. Since 2020, Tucson has outpaced Elantra in the U.S. sales chart, reflecting the growing global demand for SUVs.

A Hyundai spokesperson noted that surpassing 10 million units for the Tucson is a significant milestone, especially as it is the first Korean SUV to achieve this feat in 21 years. The 2025 Tucson is set to feature advanced technologies and improved efficiency, further enhancing its competitiveness in the global market and maintaining its strong sales trajectory.
