Nissan unveiled its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) pickup truck, the Frontier Pro, at the Auto Shanghai 2025. The model is part of nine new energy vehicles (NEVs) Nissan plans to launch in China by 2027, with the first release scheduled for the latter half of this year.

The Frontier Pro, developed by Zhengzhou Nissan (ZNA), a joint venture between Nissan and Dongfeng Motor, is a midsize pickup built on a different platform than the North American Frontier. It features a PHEV system with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and a high-output electric motor, delivering 300 kW (about 408 horsepower) and 800 Nm of torque. According to China’s CLTC standards, it achieves an all-electric range of up to 135 km (about 84 miles).

The vehicle features a five-link rear suspension, an intelligent AWD system, and an electronic rear differential lock. It supports four driving modes: hybrid, all-electric, performance, and snow. The V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function provides up to 6 kW (about 8.1 horsepower) of power to external devices.

The exterior reflects design elements inspired by the 1980s Nissan Hardbody pickup, while the interior features a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch infotainment display, and premium seats with ventilation and massage functions.
