Toyota unveiled the world’s first large battery-electric sedan, the bZ7, at the Auto Shanghai 2025, which is over 5 meters (196.9 inches) long. The bZ7 is the flagship model of the Chinese-only pure electric vehicle lineup, following the existing bZ4X, bZ3, bZ3X, and bZ5. It was unveiled in concept form at the Auto Guangzhou last November and has since been unveiled in a design close to the mass-production version.
The exterior reflects the latest Toyota design language, centered around refined lines and surfaces. In particular, the thin and sharp headlamps are reminiscent of the new Prius, and the entire front is filled with flowing curves and futuristic details.

The bZ7 was developed in collaboration with Toyota’s Chinese joint venture, Guangzhou Toyota (GAC-Toyota), and Toyota’s Chinese R&D organization, the Intelligent Electro-mobility Research Center (IMEC). Toyota described the bZ7 as a model that combines China’s cutting-edge technology and Toyota’s high-quality manufacturing capabilities, revealing its commitment to developing electric vehicles for the strategic Chinese market.
Technical specifications have not yet been released, but the bZ7 is expected to be released in the Chinese market within a year and will be equipped with various cutting-edge technologies. In particular, Huawei’s HarmonyOS will be applied to the infotainment system, heralding a differentiation in user experience, and it is known that a lidar-based ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) will also be installed.

Toyota plans to make the bZ7 the centerpiece of its electric vehicle lineup in China and continue to strengthen its regional specialization strategy.
