Honda’s best-selling midsize sedan, the Accord, is getting a facelift that promises a sportier and more sophisticated appearance.

The redesigned model, first revealed in China, boasts a more aggressive exterior design and advanced technology than its predecessor.

This update comes at a crucial time, as the Accord has been facing stiff competition from rivals like the Hyundai Sonata in some markets. Industry watchers are keen to see if these changes will boost the Accord’s global competitiveness.

Bolder Exterior Styling

The most striking changes are visible at the front. The radiator grille now features a new pattern with 19 horizontal slats, with the daytime running lights (DRLs) extending to its edge, creating a more cohesive look.

Honda has eliminated the awkward orange reflectors and replaced them with a sleek bumper design incorporating a wide air intake for the improved air curtains. This design emphasizes the car’s dynamic performance.

The side profile exudes a cleaner, more upscale appearance with body-colored side skirts.

The standard model features new 17-inch wheels and a more sophisticated design. While the rear end remains unchanged, LED light bars enhance its modern aesthetic.

High-Tech Interior Upgrades

The new Accord boasts major technological upgrades. Its interior features a 10.2-inch floating-style digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch center display that aligns with current trends.

Integrating climate controls into the touchscreen has resulted in a cleaner, more intuitive center stack layout.

Comfort and convenience features include a BOSE audio system, wireless smartphone charging, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Safety has not been overlooked, with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) standards, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

Familiar Powertrains and Market Outlook

The Accord’s powertrain options remain unchanged. Buyers can choose between a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (189 horsepower, 192 lb-ft of torque) and a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid system (181 horsepower, 247 lb-ft of torque).

The plug-in hybrid variant impresses with its ability to travel up to 66 miles on electric power alone, making it practical for daily commutes.

While official pricing has not been announced, industry insiders estimate the 1.5-liter turbo model will start around 179,800 CNY (approximately $24,812).
