Jeep prepares for a significant turning point with the launch of its new model. The all-new Compass, built on Stellantis’ next-generation STLA Medium platform, will first debut in the European market. However, thanks to leaked images before the official release, key design elements and trim configurations have already been revealed, signaling a distinct shift from the previous model.

This change, starting in Europe, reflects a full redesign. The interior is filled with advanced digital elements, while the exterior features boxy wheel arches and shorter overhangs, giving the compact SUV an off-road feel that stands out. The PHEV and EV lineup, aligned with the global electrification strategy, is expected to attract attention.

Angular Body Design Takes Center Stage

Horizontal Metal Trim Enhances Interior

The new Compass features a more angular design. The front includes sharp LED daytime running lights and narrow air intakes, giving it a more futuristic look. The side profile showcases a robust design with boxy wheel arches and large cladding, which stand out in the urban SUV market. The higher trims, expected to be the Trailhawk, add skid plates to enhance their off-road capabilities, marking a significant departure from the previous generation’s more playful aesthetic.

The new Compass offers a more refined and upscale feel than its predecessor. A large display sits at the top of the center console, while physical buttons and a rotary dial are arranged below for ease of use. Leaked images of higher trims show features like a double sunroof, heads-up display, and leather-stitched details, indicating a strong focus on the premium compact SUV segment. The horizontal metal trim adds to the sense of space, further enhancing the overall interior design.

Diverse Powertrain Options

Off-roading Goes Green

The new Compass’s standout feature is its powertrain. Jeep plans to offer mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants. Based on the Peugeot e-3008 platform, the electric model is expected to feature a dual-motor system producing up to 325 horsepower and 51.9 kgf ·m (382 lb-ft) torque. Battery options are likely to include 73 kWh or 97 kWh packs.

Jeep’s renowned four-wheel-drive system remains a core feature. Notably, the brand’s commitment to maintaining off-road capabilities in plug-in hybrid and fully electric models highlights an expansion of Jeep’s identity rather than merely following industry electrification trends. While the North American launch may face slight delays due to production issues in Canada, European production will begin by late 2025.

Cementing Jeep’s Market Presence

Anticipating a Competitive Landscape

The Jeep Compass has occupied an ambiguous position within the brand’s lineup. However, this comprehensive redesign aims to establish a stronger presence in the compact SUV market. Combining a boxy design, authentic SUV proportions, and electrified powertrains addresses environmental concerns and defines Jeep’s vision of a true electric SUV.

With the launch of this new model, Stellantis aims to meet the diverse consumer demands across Europe, North America, and Asia. As the Compass evolves, seeing how the competition unfolds in the coming years will be interesting.
