At the upcoming Auto Shanghai event, Volkswagen Group has announced plans to unveil three new concept cars targeting the Chinese market. These models are being independently developed for the automaker’s three local joint ventures: FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC Volkswagen, and Volkswagen Anhui.
This concept car reveal is part of Volkswagen’s strategic initiative to strengthen its foothold in the Chinese market. Each design will showcase the unique brand identity and cater to the specific customer base of the respective joint ventures, incorporating tailored design languages and cutting-edge technologies.
FAW-Volkswagen will focus on practical designs for young families, while SAIC Volkswagen will emphasize premium aesthetics and emotional appeal. On the other hand, Volkswagen Anhui is planning to showcase technology-driven, futuristic styling.
In 2024, Volkswagen introduced its new design philosophy with the ID. The CODE concept car featured a sleek exterior, flexible interior space, Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities, and an AI-based virtual assistant.
CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars China, Stefan Mecha, explained, “The new China DNA blends timeless design with cutting-edge technology trends. It will address various customer segments through personalized design languages.”
By introducing these three concept cars, Volkswagen aims to bolster its localized consumer strategy and set itself apart in China’s increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
