Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance brand AMG will reveal its first all-electric vehicle (EV), which is expected to be a direct competitor to the Porsche Taycan. This ultra-high-performance electric sedan is set to surpass AMG’s existing gasoline-powered performance models, making it the brand’s most powerful production car. AMG first previewed this project through the Vision 2025 concept in 2022.
The radical design at that time emphasized an aggressive character, distinctly different from Mercedes-Benz’s typical electric cars. The upcoming model is expected to resemble the concept’s design closely. One notable concept feature is the star symbol, where the headlamps are expected to be, reflecting Mercedes-Benz’s latest family design language.

Redefining Electric Performance
AMG’s Pure Electric Powerhouse
The upcoming AMG EV boasts a significantly lower and longer profile than Mercedes’ existing electric sedans like the EQE and EQS. With its elongated hood, low roofline, and imposing dimensions, it directly targets competitors like the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air. This design ensures ample rear-seat space and a large trunk, positioning the vehicle as a super grand tourer. The rear view, visible through the camouflage, showcases design elements from the Vision 2025 concept, including the six-lamp round tail lights and aggressive diffuser.
The vehicle incorporates an active rear spoiler and flush door handles, showcasing meticulous aerodynamic engineering to maximize downforce while minimizing drag. This AMG electric sedan will debut on the all-new AMG.EA platform, purpose-built for high-performance EVs. Unlike other Mercedes electric models, it is developed entirely with AMG’s own technology, marking the arrival of the first mass-production vehicle for the performance-driven EV era.

1,000 Horsepower and 1,020 lb-ft of Torque
Rivaling Bugatti’s Performance
The new AMG electric sedan uses next-generation ultra-compact high-performance motors developed by YASA, the UK-based company acquired by Mercedes. These motors alone generate an impressive 480 horsepower and 81.5 kgf·m (590 lb-ft) of torque, all within just 24 kg (53 lbs) of weight. These specs are more powerful than any current performance motor on the market. AMG has hinted at the possibility of integrating two of these motors, which could bring the total system output to approximately 1,000 horsepower and 138.3 kgf·m (1,020 lb-ft), rivaling the performance of the Bugatti Chiron, the world’s most powerful production car.
AMG is expected to implement a unique drivetrain layout with both motors at the rear. This configuration allows for a lower front end to reduce drag while maintaining the sporty dynamics of rear-wheel drive and maximizing trunk space. AMG positions this new electric sedan as a true performance tourer, carrying forward the legacy of its V8-powered GT four-door coupe.

Luxury Meets Sport
AMG’s Electric Revolution
This groundbreaking vehicle seamlessly blends ample space, long driving range, and ultra-high performance. Unlike traditional supercars that prioritize performance above all else, AMG’s new electric sedan aims to be a super grand tourer, capable of handling long-distance journeys with family while delivering top-tier performance. It’s poised to lead the charge in the electrified family performance segment by infusing AMG’s signature driving dynamics.
Mercedes-AMG will officially unveil this EV super sedan in June. The launch signals AMG’s ambitious commitment to creating the fastest and most powerful vehicles, even as the automotive world transitions away from internal combustion engines. AMG’s full electric vehicle strategy has just begun.
