The Kia EV4, recently unveiled by the automaker, is a core model at the heart of Kia’s electrification strategy. Positioned between the mass-market EV3 and the flagship EV9, the EV4 blends stylish design, impressive driving range, and practical features, making it the Central Axis of the EV lineup. This test drive focused on the EV4 Long Range model, with a comprehensive evaluation covering its design, interior space, driving performance, and efficiency.

The EV4 makes a strong first impression—not just Stylish, but genuinely original. While sharing a silhouette similar to the EV6, the EV4 features a more sharply sculpted front end reminiscent of a high-performance model. Vertical LED headlamps and an aggressively carved bonnet give the car an assertive presence. At the rear, a uniquely vertical tail design following a gently sloping roofline results in an uncommon trunk-opening structure. Instead of a rear wiper, the vehicle maintains rear visibility through airflow channeled via a roof spoiler—an aerodynamic solution that enhances both form and function.

The interior layout resembles that of the EV3 but emphasizes higher-end materials and finer details. The integrated digital cluster and infotainment display are complemented by a lower tray-style storage area for added usability. Although the test car was a standard trim, its intuitive controls and EV-specific interface stood out. The drive modes include Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, and a customizable My Drive mode, totaling five options.

The EV4 Long Range model features a 150kW single motor (approximately 203 horsepower) and delivers over 500km of range with 19-inch tires. During the test drive, the car displayed an estimated 600km of range with 80% battery, which was notably impressive. In Eco mode, power consumption is minimized, maximizing efficiency—an appealing factor for long-distance drivers.

The EV4 delivers a composed and balanced driving experience. Torque response is sharp during initial acceleration, with sufficient power for everyday driving. At higher speeds, performance plateaus slightly, reinforcing the EV4’s identity as a practical vehicle. The steering is tuned for comfort and stability rather than aggressiveness. On winding roads, the car’s solid chassis and improved roll suppression (compared to the EV3) are evident.

One of the EV4’s standout features is its ride comfort. Rather than being overly firm, the suspension is solid yet forgiving, reducing fatigue in daily driving. Its ability to absorb speed bumps in two stages, smooth out road impacts, and maintain low cabin noise sets it apart—arguably the best in its class. The noticeable improvement in ride quality over the EV3 suggests that Kia has invested considerable resources in the EV4.

The EV4 Long Range model can be purchased for around 20,800 USD when factoring in both central and local government subsidies. Among EVs offering over 500km of range, this is one of the most competitively priced options. With its combination of style, range, and practicality, the EV4 is well-positioned to lead the mass adoption of electric vehicles.

For those considering an EV, the Kia EV4 represents one of the most practical and appealing choices available. Whether as a first EV or a second family car, it offers a well-rounded package. It delivers solid performance across design, cabin space, driving dynamics, and ride comfort. Most notably, its outstanding range and affordability are its greatest strengths.

For consumers unwilling to compromise on either style or efficiency in an EV, the EV4 may just be the perfect answer.
