Futuristic Design, Off-Road Grit—Genesis Reveals Its Most Futuristic Off-Roader Ev

Genesis

Genesis unveiled a unique concept car at the 2025 New York International Auto Show. It’s called the Genesis X Gran Equator. Genesis has previously showcased several X concepts, but this time, it’s an SUV with a distinct off-road vibe.

The name Equator not only refers to the geographic equator but is also said to have been inspired by the name of a legendary Arabian stallion or warhorse.

Concept cars from Genesis bearing the X badge have typically replaced the brand’s signature shield grille with a bold dual LED line that forms the shape of a shield—or the Genesis logo.

The X Gran Equator, however, presents a different design approach. While the thick, bold dual lines remain, the front has been redesigned into a single continuous horizontal strip. This seems to be a deliberate move by the designers, but the result may feel somewhat unfamiliar at first glance. The headlamps are separated and positioned below as small circular units.

24-Inch All-Terrain Tires

With a long hood, high beltline, narrow windshield, and sharply descending C-pillar and tailgate lines, the overall look is that of an off-road SUV. It even appears as if the car has been deliberately pressed down to emphasize this aesthetic.

The sides lack distinct character lines, and the corners are smoothly curved. The wheel arches and bumpers are finished in black plastic, which doesn’t stand out much. Aside from the all-terrain tires, off-road elements aren’t heavily emphasized.

A Fusion of Digital and Analog

The interior also takes a different path from previous Genesis X concept cars. The typical panoramic or rectangular infotainment displays have been removed, replaced by four classic circular screens. Genesis says the design was inspired by vintage camera dials. While it’s unlikely that the production version will adopt this layout entirely, some elements may be selectively incorporated.

The steering wheel features multiple physical buttons, with three digital instrument panels behind it. The center console houses large toggle switches that appear operable even with gloves. The crystal sphere controller from the GV60 also makes an appearance.

Genesis once again demonstrates its world-class sensibility in interior color design. The cabin is finished in a mix of deep navy and light royal blue with beige accents. According to overseas sources, it’s a four-seater with swiveling front seats, although the extended center console raises questions about whether the seats are separate.

Genesis has stated that the X Gran Equator is not yet confirmed for production. However, even if it doesn’t come out immediately, it’s likely that some of its design elements will be reflected in the next-generation GV70 or GV80.
