Xiaomi, once known as a surprising mistake, has evolved from a company primarily selling affordable power banks to an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. Their electric sedan, SU7, introduced last year, initially faced various quality issues but is steadily overcoming them. The company now commands a significant presence in the domestic Chinese market.

Recently, Xiaomi’s first SUV model, the YU7, has drawn attention with its prototype being spotted multiple times. Xiaomi previously teased the exterior of this new model, showcasing a sleek design reminiscent of the Ferrari Purosangue, generating considerable buzz. While the interior has not been officially revealed, recent prototype photos have leaked, sparking various reactions.

Similar Layout to the SU7, But with Key Differences

According to recent reports, the interior of the Xiaomi YU7 prototype was spotted. The photos reveal features similar to the SU7, such as the double D-cut steering wheel and large center display. However, the YU7 has some key differences: the instrument cluster spans between the A-pillars and is positioned at the end of the dashboard, and there is no visible heads-up display.

The layout lets the driver view key information beyond the steering wheel, including speed. Also, a driver’s eye-tracking camera is mounted on top of the steering column. Unlike the SUV’s design, the top of the rim is flat, giving it a sportier appearance. Other notable features include multifunction switches reminiscent of Porsche and round buttons at the bottom of each spoke.

Practical Storage Layout with Enhanced Storage Space

Earlier spy shots reveal that the center console and door trim differ significantly from the SU7. The wireless charging pads for smartphones, positioned at the bottom of the center fascia, and the center armrest console that opens from both sides, remain similar. However, the horizontal placement of the cup holders adds a practical touch, contrasting with the SU7.

The door trim appears to feature two-tone leather starting from the armrest. Industry sources suggest the seats will have the same two-tone color scheme. The front seats should include an electric leg rest, heating, and ventilation. Additionally, with Xiaomi’s Hyper OS operating system onboard, users can look forward to high smartphone integration and customizable features.

Level 3 Autonomous Driving Support

Surprisingly Competitive Pricing

The Xiaomi YU7 is positioned in the mid-size segment. It is 1,996 mm (197 inches) long, 1,600 mm (79 inches) wide, and 3,000 mm (63 inches) tall. Its 118.1-inch wheelbase promises generous interior space, typical of purpose-built EVs. The YU7 is expected to feature hardware supporting Level 3 autonomous driving, including a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.

Industry reports suggest that the YU7’s powertrain will likely offer single and dual-motor configurations. The dual-motor version is expected to produce 295 horsepower at the front and 386 horsepower at the rear, totaling 681 horsepower. The expected launch price is around 250,000 CNY (approximately 34,000 USD), making it a highly competitive offering. The question now is whether Xiaomi will once again deliver a surprising mistake in the market.
