U.S. electric vehicle startup Slate Auto unveiled its first electric pickup truck on April 24, 2025, in Long Beach, California. The vehicle will be priced under 20,000 USD with federal tax credits, and production is set to begin by the end of 2026.

The Slate truck takes a unique approach to electric vehicles with its focus on digital minimalism. It lacks large touchscreens or complex infotainment systems, offering only a basic speedometer. The vehicle excludes radio, speakers, and internet connectivity, instead allowing drivers to use smartphones for essential functions. Software updates will be handled through smartphone connections.

Slate Auto will produce only a base model of the truck, offering consumers the flexibility to customize it with over 100 accessories. One notable option is a conversion kit that transforms the pickup into an SUV.

The Slate truck comes with a 52.7 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 150 miles. An optional 84.3 kWh battery extends the range to 240 miles. The rear-wheel-drive truck delivers 201 horsepower.
