Jeep’s flagship entry-level SUV, the Compass, was spotted during testing and generated buzz. The recently captured prototype of the new Compass catches attention with a much sharper and more angular design than its predecessor. This model is being developed on Stellantis’ next-generation STLA Medium platform and is expected to offer a variety of powertrains, including internal combustion, hybrid, and electric options.

Jeep attempts to redefine the Compass by transforming it into a Recon-style vehicle, reinforcing the brand’s identity. The boxy body, sleek LED headlights, and front-end design borrowed from the Grand Cherokee combine to create an SUV that balances luxury and practicality. Initially, the model is set to launch in the European market, with a gradual rollout in North America and other global markets starting in 2026.

Design Evolution: Recon-Inspired Aesthetics

The new Compass abandons its predecessor’s rounded silhouette for a more robust and squared-off exterior. The front design, featuring a boxy grille and slim headlights reminiscent of the Jeep Recon, emphasizes the SUV’s toughness. The vertical grille and bold character lines add to its off-road appeal, making it a compact SUV that commands the presence of a higher-end model.

The side profile also adopts a solid, straight-lined structure, making the vehicle’s proportions appear more stable. The wheel arches are surrounded by durable cladding, while the rear combines slimmed-down tail lights and a black lower bumper, giving it a more refined look. Although the test car was covered in camouflage, the production-like finishing quality and wheel design suggest that its release is imminent.

One of the key highlights is the platform structure, which was designed with electrification in mind. Built on the STLA Medium platform, the new Compass will support internal combustion engines, hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and fully electric variants. In particular, the focus in the European market will be on maximizing efficiency with a 1.2-liter gasoline hybrid engine at the core.

Redefining Affordable Luxury in the EV SUV Market

Jeep plans to re-establish its strong presence in the entry-level SUV market with the newly redesigned Compass. It is expected to be priced in the mid-30,000 USD range in the U.S., making it an appealing option for traditional SUV enthusiasts and younger consumers seeking a luxury brand experience. The full redesign of this model could position it as a next-generation icon, offering the Jeep experience at an affordable price.
