Lexus unveiled the updated version of its mid-size electric SUV, the RZ, in Belgium on Wednesday. The new model will be released in stages this fall.

The exterior of the redesigned Lexus RZ retains its familiar appearance, but several updates have been made. The front headlamp design has been revised, and the vehicle now includes modified lower rocker panels, 20-inch aerodynamic wheels, a reworked rear bumper and spoiler, and an adjustable panoramic roof. Inside, the door trim now features laser-cut graphics, while the cabin has a new dynamic ambient lighting system and updated interior color options. The most significant update is the addition of a yoke-style steering wheel, which was previously introduced in Tesla models.

Lexus has significantly improved the RZ’s electric powertrain. The upgraded E-Axle features more powerful motors, each producing 167 kW at the front and rear. The lineup now includes multiple power output options, ranging from 165 kW in the front-wheel-drive model to 300 kW in all-wheel-drive variants.

The new E-Axle has been optimized to reduce power loss and support a larger battery capacity. Based on Japanese testing standards, Lexus estimates the maximum driving range to be up to 500 km (310 miles) for AWD models and 575 km (357 miles) for FWD models. The battery pack structure, onboard charger performance, and overall system efficiency have also been significantly improved.

One of the most notable upgrades in the RZ is the adoption of a steer-by-wire system. This system enables nearly all steering operations within a 200-degree range, eliminating the need for hand-over-hand steering in most driving scenarios.

Lexus also refined the RZ’s platform, integrating advanced electrification technologies while maintaining high performance. The Direct four-wheel-drive system has been redesigned to complement the electric powertrain better, improving responsiveness and driving dynamics.

Lexus introduced a new high-performance model, the RZ550e F SPORT. This variant features upgraded front and rear motors, delivering a maximum system output of 300 kW. It also marks the debut of Lexus’s first Interactive Manual Drive system. This system enhances driver engagement through precisely tuned acceleration and deceleration sounds, providing a sportier and more dynamic driving experience.
