Kia’s high-performance sports sedan, the Stinger, is returning as an electric vehicle (EV).

Since its 2017 debut, the Stinger gained a loyal following with its strong performance and rear-wheel-drive appeal. However, its discontinuation in 2023 due to declining demand disappointed many enthusiasts.

Recently, Kia confirmed that a successor to the Stinger is in development. According to Motor.es, Kia officially announced the plan during the EV3 test drive event in Europe.

The new model, EV8, is set to compete with the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan in the EV market, establishing Kia as a key player in its strategy.

The EV8 is expected to maintain the Stinger’s identity while embracing a refined, electric-oriented design. Concept images reveal a front fascia featuring slim, sharp LED headlights and Kia’s signature tiger nose grille. A sporty, large air intake adds to its commanding presence.

The side profile showcases a sleek silhouette and extended wheelbase, emphasizing dynamism with its fastback styling. The rear combines wide taillights and an aerodynamic spoiler, balancing luxury and sportiness.

Impressive Performance: Over 600 Horsepower, 500-Mile Range

The EV8’s performance is expected to surpass traditional internal combustion sports sedans. Kia aims for a maximum output of 612 horsepower (456 kW) through a new dual-motor system, rivaling high-performance sports sedans.

A large-capacity battery will be a key feature. The EV8 is being developed with a 113.2 kWh battery, targeting a maximum range of 500 miles (800 km) on a single charge. This places it among the top contenders in the premium EV market.

Built on Kia’s latest EV platform, eM, the EV8 will likely incorporate software-defined vehicle (SDV) technology and Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities.

2026 Launch: A Potential Game-Changer in the EV Market?

Kia aims to officially launch the EV8 in 2026, with a prototype potentially debuting as early as 2025.

The anticipated price range of $50,000 to $65,000 positions it in direct competition with the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. Industry observers are keenly watching to see if the EV8 can establish itself as a cornerstone of Kia’s premium EV lineup, transcending its role as merely a Stinger successor.
