South Korea’s military officials raised surveillance levels, citing the possibility that North Korea may send more troops to Russia this year.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) spokesperson, Col. Lee Sung Jun stated during a Defense Ministry briefing on Thursday that Kim Jong Un recently visited a training ground to raise troop morale. Col. Lee noted similar actions before last year’s troop deployment to Russia.

Col. Lee emphasized that monitoring efforts are intensifying, as similar deployments may occur this year.

Regarding North Korea’s military reconnaissance satellite program, Col. Lee stated there are no clear signs of an upcoming launch.

Addressing Tuesday’s border incident, where armed North Korean soldiers in protective gear crossed south of the MDL, Col. Lee clarified that the area is not an active operational zone.

The military believes the movement was a preemptive reconnaissance for future operations.

Col. Lee added that no additional sightings or activities have occurred since the incident.

The incursion involved about ten North Korean soldiers crossing the MDL on Tuesday. They withdrew after South Korean forces fired warning shots.

JCS confirmed that some of the intruders carried rifles.
