Tesla is temporarily halting its new Model Y production at the Shanghai Gigafactory for three weeks. According to Electrek, the Company intends to halt part of its new Model Y production line from January 22 to February 14.

Production of the Model 3, another vehicle manufactured at the facility, will also be paused from January 26 to February 3.

This hiatus coincides with China’s Lunar New Year holiday when most industries typically shut down. Tesla, which recently began producing the new Model Y, plans to use this downtime to upgrade the production line, aiming to streamline capacity and increase output.

In 2024, Tesla reportedly delivered around 480,000 Model Y vehicles in China, a 5% increase from the previous year. Earlier reports noted that Tesla’s new Model Y garnered over 50,000 reservations in China within just 24 hours of its announcement.

As Model Y is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle and China represents the largest EV market globally, industry analysts stress the importance of closely monitoring the production and launch of the Model Y in China, given its significance in the automotive landscape.
