Honda has announced plans to launch the Acura RSX, its first electric vehicle (EV) built on a proprietary platform, in 2026.
According to The Verge on Wednesday, the new model will be developed using Honda’s in-house platform and feature a proprietary operating system called “Asimo.”
Honda’s battery EVs have recently been built on General Motors’ platform. However, the RSX will rely entirely on Honda’s own technology.
Production is scheduled to begin in late 2025 at a new facility in Ohio, established through a joint venture between Honda and LG Energy Solution.
Industry experts regard the Asimo OS as Honda’s entry into software-defined vehicles, enabling centralized control over core vehicle functions.
At CES 2025, Honda unveiled two battery EV prototypes, introducing them as the first models to integrate the innovative Asimo OS, which guarantees a unique user experience.
The Asimo OS, named after Honda’s retired humanoid robot, will manage the integration of various vehicle systems, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving capabilities, and in-vehicle infotainment features.
Jessica Fini, Honda’s Vice President of Communications, expressed her devotion to the project. She stated that Acura has again positioned itself at the forefront of electrification and digital innovation in the automotive industry.
