Lucid Motors officially launched the full-scale sales of its flagship electric SUV, the Gravity, in the U.S. First unveiled at the 2023 LA Auto Show, it was highly praised from the outset and is now being released as a production model after nearly two years. This new vehicle showcases Lucid’s cutting-edge technology, setting it apart from traditional large SUVs in range, performance, and spaciousness.

The Gravity is 5,030 mm (197.2 inches) long, 2,200 mm (86.6 inches) wide, and has a wheelbase of 3,022 mm (119 inches). It offers seating for five to seven passengers. It has a 123 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering up to 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge based on the U.S. EPA standards. Also, it supports 400 kW fast charging, allowing 400 km (248 miles) to be added in just 20 minutes. This addresses consumer concerns about EV charging times and efficiency.

Aerodynamic Design and Futuristic Interior

The interior exudes a forward-looking vibe

The Gravity achieves an impressive drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.2 through its aerodynamic exterior design. This figure is remarkable for a large SUV, demonstrating that the design contributes visually and also to driving efficiency. The low profile and sleek silhouette enhance high-speed stability and quietness.

Inside, the Gravity combines Lucid’s signature futuristic aesthetics with advanced technology. It features a 34-inch 6K OLED curved display, a 12.6-inch auxiliary screen, and an augmented reality head-up display, providing an immersive experience for all passengers. In addition to the standard 5-passenger configuration, a 7-passenger version with a third row will also be available, expanding trunk space to a maximum of 3,000 liters.

This combination of practicality and emotional appeal makes it an attractive option for consumers who value multi-purpose functionality, like camping. The powertrain is equally impressive, with dual motors generating 828 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Lucid plans to introduce this model in the U.S. first, followed by major European markets, aiming to establish a significant presence in the electrified SUV segment.

Performance and Space: A Full-Size Electric SUV

The Gravity sets a new standard for large SUVs in the electrification era. It boasts a large battery capacity and high output and surpasses traditional internal combustion engine SUVs in overall balance and refinement. It excels in various driving conditions with a high-performance system delivering 828 horsepower, electronic air suspension, and a rear-wheel steering system.

The rear-wheel steering technology, which enhances agility during high-speed cornering and maneuverability during low-speed parking, is a key factor in overcoming the mobility limits typically associated with large SUVs. The Gravity firmly establishes its identity as a luxury electric SUV with quiet operation, ride comfort, and a seamless interior user experience.

Through Gravity, Lucid Motors officially expanded its electrification strategy beyond sedans, entering the SUV market. Gravity is now ready to establish itself as the new benchmark for consumers seeking electric SUVs. With its focus on high performance and premium features, Lucid’s strategy to enter the EV market is attracting global attention, with the industry closely observing the results of this move.
