Is This the Cutest EV Ever? Nissan’s Micra Is Back With Puppy Eyes and a 248-Mile Range

Nissan’s compact hatchback, the Micra, is back as a fully electric vehicle (EV). Developed in collaboration with Renault, the new Micra will launch in Europe later this year. It shares the same CMF-BEV platform as the Renault 5 EV and will be produced in France. Nissan also plans to introduce two more EVs in Europe by 2026, including the Micra.

The new Micra borrows styling cues from the 20-23 concept car revealed in 2023. While the concept had bold aerodynamic features, the Micra’s production has a cleaner and more refined design. Nissan’s European Design Center in London led the exterior design, while production will occur at a Renault factory in France. Although it shares a platform and production line with the Renault 5, the Micra has its own design identity.

‘Puppy Eyes’ Headlamp Feature

Small but Strong Design

The new Micra features round headlights inspired by the K12 Micra and an exterior that highlights classic charm. Character lines extend from the headlights, and the large wheels enhance its strong stance. Nissan’s design chief said, “If the Renault 5 is a sturdy bulldog, the Micra combines the cuteness of a puppy with a muscular body.”

The hood is longer and wider than the previous Micra and has been redesigned to meet front-end safety standards. Though it shares parts with the Renault 5, the Micra has been carefully adjusted to keep a distinct appearance. The design supports Nissan’s goal of preserving its brand identity through its electric models.

Driving Range Over 248 Miles

Aiming for Affordable Entry-Level EV

The Micra will be available with 40 kWh and 52 kWh battery packs. The larger battery offers up to 248 miles (about 400 km) of driving range. Power output details are not confirmed, but it’s expected to be similar to the Renault 5 EV, which offers 118 and 148 hp versions. The Micra aims to deliver competitive charging speed and efficiency.

Nissan’s European chief said that the Micra isn’t just a means of transportation; it delivers emotion. The model is intended to lower the price barrier to EV adoption. Pricing is expected to start at around £23,000 (approximately $33,000), close to the base price of the Renault 5.

A Game-Changer in the Urban EV Market: Holding the Key to EV Adoption

The new Micra is more than just a compact EV. It’s the result of a strategic partnership within the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Nissan leads design and concept, while Renault handles production and platform development. This approach helps control production costs and maintain quality. This collaborative model is expected to become a major trend in global electrification strategies.

In addition to the Micra, Nissan plans to launch a new Leaf and an electric Juke in Europe. The Micra is an affordable electric car that delivers on price, looks, and driving capability. It’s positioned to set new trends in Europe’s urban EV market. The return of the Micra is more than just a compact car comeback. It reflects Nissan’s brand direction in the EV era by combining everyday practicality with emotional appeal.
