Toyota introduced its compact electric SUV, the C-HR+, on March 12.

Toyota stated that its dedicated EV platform, e-TNGA 2.0, is the foundation for the C-HR+, which offers a maximum range of 600 km (373 miles) on a single charge under WLTP standards.

Consumers have enthusiastically responded to the C-HR+. Its coupe-inspired design and extended range are expected to impact the EV market.

The C-HR+ is an entirely new model, distinct from its internal combustion engine predecessor.

Its exterior features Toyota’s latest design language, which is also used in the new Camry. The headlamp design is distinctive and catches the eye.

The C-HR+ measures 4,520 mm (178.3 inches) in length with a 2,750 mm (108.3-inch) wheelbase and maintains a sleek coupe-like silhouette while preserving rear headroom. The trunk offers 416 liters (14.7 cubic feet) of cargo space, enhancing practicality.

Consumers have responded positively to the interior’s comfort and the two-tone color options.

Competitive Performance Against Key Rivals

The C-HR+’s 77 kWh battery provides a 600 km (373 miles) range, surpassing the IONIQ 5 and EV6, which offer approximately 500 km (311 miles) on larger 84.0 kWh battery packs. Select trims offer a 57.7 kWh battery option.

The dual-motor AWD C-HR+ delivers 338 horsepower, edging out the EV6’s 325 hp. However, it falls short of the high-performance EV6 GT’s 650 hp and 3.5-second 0-62 mph time, clocking in at 5.2 seconds.

The C-HR+ supports 150 kW fast charging, significantly reducing downtime on long trips.

Regarding design, Toyota positions the C-HR+ as a model targeting singles and couples, setting it apart from Hyundai’s family-oriented IONIQ 5 and Kia’s driver-focused EV6. A Toyota representative noted that the C-HR+ combines a sedan’s comfort with an SUV’s versatility, offering both spaciousness and strong driving performance.

European Launch in 2025

The C-HR+ will launch in select European markets in late summer 2025, and sales will expand across Europe in 2026.

Toyota plans to strengthen its market competitiveness with an expanded EV lineup, including the C-HR+. The company expects to apply its traditional durability and reliability to the EV sector, reinforcing its market position.

Consumer reactions to the new model have been highly positive. Comments such as “I own a 2018 C-HR, and this new model looks fantastic” and “Toyota finally has an affordable EV” reflect the excitement of the release.

Industry experts anticipate that the C-HR+ will attract significant attention in the electric SUV market, given its refined design, strong specifications, and Toyota’s brand reputation.
