Rivian introduced a new software update for its electric vehicles, according to tech news site Engadget on Tuesday.

The update includes an enhanced highway assist feature that controls steering, acceleration, and braking on compatible highways. It uses an infrared camera in the rearview mirror to monitor driver attentiveness, even when their hands are off the wheel. This feature is currently limited to Rivian’s second-generation vehicles, and its availability for first-generation models has not been confirmed.

Rivian also added a new driving mode to its Performance Dual-Motor lineup. Rally mode, designed for off-road driving, improves steering and acceleration response on various terrains. Additionally, some dual-motor vehicles will receive three new driving modes—Rally, Sport, and Soft Sand—as part of a post-purchase performance upgrade, available for a one-time fee of $5,000.

Additional updates apply to both first- and second-generation Rivian vehicles. These include an automatic side mirror tilting function and a tire puncture detection system. The mobile app now allows users to adjust wheel type settings, improving the accuracy of range estimates.
