Volkswagen ID.4 Is Back in the Race—And It’s Selling Fast in January

With 4,979 units sold in January, the Volkswagen ID.4 is becoming more popular in the US market. Once again demonstrating its presence in a cutthroat market, this electric vehicle (EV) ranks third in sales behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

As it returns to the market, ID.4, which saw a 55% year-over-year drop in sales in September 2024 due to a door handle recall, is exhibiting signs of recovery.

In 2024, Volkswagen sold 17,000 ID.4s, including 646 in the fourth quarter. Given the economy, it hopes to sell about 60,000 units this year.

According to data from Cox Automotive, the top five models in the US EV market in January accounted for 54% of all sales: the Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Cybertruck, and Honda Prologue. However, Tesla has not yet made its formal announcement public.

In January, sales of EVs in the US topped 102,200 units, up roughly 30% from the previous year. This indicates that the market for EVs is still expanding steadily.
