Foxconn Plans to Build EVs in the U.S.—And Not Just for Itself

Foxconn, the Taiwanese tech giant responsible for manufacturing 40% of the world’s consumer electronics, is boldly moving into the electric vehicle (EV) market.

InsideEV reported that Foxconn’s reach in the electronics industry is vast. It produces everything from Apple’s iconic iPhones to Amazon’s Kindle e-readers and Nintendo Switch gaming consoles.

In a recent announcement, Foxconn unveiled its ambitious vision to develop a comprehensive EV lineup, with plans to sell some models in the United States. While initial production will begin in Taiwan, the company’s long-term strategy includes establishing a manufacturing facility on American soil.

The planned lineup is diverse, featuring a midsize crossover, a compact crossover, two vans, and a midsize sedan. Notably, the crossover models are slated for release in the U.S. market.

One of Foxconn’s key strategies mirrors its role in the electronics industry, particularly its relationship with Apple. The company aims to position itself as a contract manufacturer for the automotive sector. Foxconn plans to design and produce vehicles for the U.S. market and then offer them as turnkey solutions to interested automakers.
