Ford Outpaces GM in Hands-Free Driving Market with Aggressive BlueCruise Rollout

Germany Approves Ford’s Hands-Free Feature, BlueCruise

Ford has surpassed General Motors in the hands-free driving assistance system market, according to a report by InsideEV.

According to the report, Ford announced that 675,000 vehicles equipped with its BlueCruise system are on the road. This figure nearly doubles General Motors’ 360,000 vehicles featuring Super Cruise technology.

What is the reason for the gap between the two companies? Industry analysts point to differing technological strategies. Ford has aggressively rolled out its hands-free driving technology across a wider range of vehicles, appealing to a broader customer base. In contrast, General Motors has taken a more cautious approach, which has limited its market penetration.

“While General Motors pioneered hands-free driving assistance systems, Ford quickly gained market dominance by making the technology widely available across its vehicle lineup,” industry experts noted.

Ford has made BlueCruise a standard feature on all Mustang Mach-E models and has expanded its availability to key models like the F-150 pickup. On the other hand, General Motors initially limited Super Cruise to select models such as the Cadillac CT6 and continues to offer it primarily through premium trim levels and option packages.
