Once synonymous with classic British masculinity in its automotive offerings, Jaguar has faced mixed reactions since unveiling its rebranding efforts in November. The brand, which has struggled with poor sales in recent years, introduced an unconventional rebranding video that left many fans puzzled about its direction. Adding fuel to the fire, the Type 00 concept car was criticized for straying too far from Jaguar’s heritage.

In response, virtual car creators have quickly shared their redesigns, suggesting, “This is how the XJ successor should look.” While these concepts will unlikely come to life, fans continue to express their anticipation. A new rendering of a next-generation electric vehicle (EV) inspired by the current XJ caught the public’s eye recently.

Exterior Design Downplays Electric Vehicle Cues
While Incorporating Sophisticated Modern Elements

The rendering, published by Russian automotive media outlet Kolesa, presents a familiar silhouette reminiscent of the existing XJ. The design incorporates modern elements, signaling the evolution of the Jaguar’s family look. The front grille connects to the previous model, but the focus shifts toward opulent details rather than purely aerodynamic efficiency, which is unusual for an electric vehicle.

One notable update is the L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), which have been tweaked to add more character. This change and a revised DRL arrangement create a seamless flow from the bonnet to the fender. The door handles have been replaced with flush types, and the fender garnish has been redesigned to enhance the vehicle’s sharpness. The side mirrors have been updated to a flag-type, lending the car a more modern and refined appearance.

Tail Lights Reminiscent of the XE
Possible Internal Combustion Engine Derivative

The rear design blends elements from the XJ and the XE. The shoulder line has been toned down compared to the existing model, but the overall volume remains balanced thanks to the surrounding design features. The tail lamp graphic features a gently curved shape with a continuous light strip. The Jaguar emblem is uniquely placed at the top of the rear, with the lettering integrated into the tail lamp itself.

The car’s rear doesn’t scream “electric” at first glance. While the absence of muffler tips on the rear bumper could indicate it’s an electric vehicle, this feature is common in modern internal combustion engine vehicles, which often hide mufflers to align with eco-friendly trends. The shark fin antennas and a charging port on the rear fender suggest that this hypothetical new car could be an electric version derived from an internal combustion engine design.

New Jaguar Models Set for 2026 Launch
Design Remains the Critical Factor

Jaguar’s flagship electric vehicle, currently under development, is expected to be named the I-Type. Unlike the two-door Type 00 concept, the I-Type will be a four-door GT. It will feature rapid charging capabilities, providing a range of 321 kilometers (200 miles) with just a 15-minute charge, and aims for a total range of 770 kilometers (479 miles) based on the WLTP standard. The mass-produced I-Type is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2025, with sales slated to begin in 2026. For Jaguar, success in this new electric era will hinge on a design that resonates with old and new fans.
