Kia to Launch EV2 in Europe in 2026: 273-Mile Range for Around $21,000

Kia is preparing to launch its new electric car, the EV2, in 2026. This compact crossover, designed for European cities, will be positioned to compete directly with Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brands. The EV2 will stand out for its affordability and compact size, perfect for urban driving.

Kia’s First European-Targeted EV

The EV2 will be Kia’s first EV developed specifically for the European market. Reports indicate that production will begin later this year at Kia’s Slovakian plant. The company aims to produce 100,000 units annually, and the EV2 is expected to represent about 20% of its total EV sales.

The EV9 and EV3 models will inspire the EV2’s design. It will feature a distinctive crescent-shaped lighting signature and a body length of 3,962 mm (156.0 inches)—304 mm (12.0 inches) shorter than the EV3. This makes the EV2 ideal for European roads and tight urban spaces.

Two Battery Options for Range Flexibility

The EV2 will offer two battery options: a 42kWh LFP battery with an estimated range of 300km (186 miles) and a 62kWh NCM battery expected to deliver around 430km (273 miles) on a single charge. These ranges are competitive with those of European rivals, such as the Citroen C3, Fiat Grande Panda, and Hyundai Inster, and they provide a solid alternative to mainstream combustion vehicles.

Affordable Pricing: Starting at Just $21,000

Kia is targeting a starting price of £17,000 to £25,000 (approximately $21,183 to $31,151) for the EV2, undercutting many of its competitors in the European market. Vehicles like the BYD Dolphin, Peugeot e-2008, Mini Cooper Electric, MG ZS EV, and Renault Captur E-Tech are priced in a similar range, between £20,000 and £25,000 ($24,920 to $31,151).

The price difference between the two battery options is particularly notable. The nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery is expected to be cheaper than the LFP variant, which could further boost EV2’s appeal in an increasingly price-sensitive market.

Kia has confirmed that the EV2 is intended exclusively for the European market. There are no plans for a South Korean launch at this time. However, the company has left the door open for a possible change in strategy, depending on market conditions.
