Hyundai Joins the Club: 20,000 Tesla Superchargers Now Open to Its EVs

Hyundai Motor Company has announced plans to provide access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, marking a significant move to bolster its presence in the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) market. This strategic decision represents a major step forward in expanding EV charging infrastructure across the United States.

Hyundai’s initiative will benefit owners of its electric lineup, including the Kona Electric, Ioniq Electric hatchback, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6 models equipped with Combined Charging System ports. By introducing a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter, Hyundai customers will gain access to over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers nationwide, significantly expanding their charging options.

Starting the week of April 7, eligible Hyundai EV owners who purchased their vehicles before January 31, 2025, will receive email instructions on obtaining and using the complimentary adapter. This adapter, designed for compatibility with Hyundai’s battery electric vehicles built on the e-GMP high-voltage platform, effectively doubles the number of available DC fast-charging stations for users.

Olabisi Boyle, Hyundai Motor North America’s Vice President of Product Planning and Mobility Strategy, highlighted the significance of this development, stating that the initiative immediately doubles the fast-charging options for many Hyundai EV owners, with access to 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. He added that Hyundai remains committed to enhancing the public charging experience, providing customers more choices, and facilitating a smoother transition to EV ownership in the U.S. market.

Hyundai plans to integrate native NACS ports into future models, including the 2025 Ioniq 5 and the upcoming 2026 Ioniq 9. The company is also ramping up its EV and battery production capabilities at its new Savannah, Georgia facility to meet the surging demand for EVs in the U.S. market.
