Deepal, an electric vehicle brand of Changan Automobile in China, has officially launched its flagship SUV model, the S09. The S09 is a six-seat luxury SUV with cutting-edge convenience features and autonomous driving technology.
Industry sources, including Gasgoo Automotive News and Car News China, reported that Deepal had launched its flagship SUV, S09, the previous day.
The S09 boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 205.1 inches in length, 78.5 inches in width, and 70.9 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 122.2 inches. Its spacious interior is expected to give it an edge over competitors in terms of practicality and comfort.
The S09’s exterior design showcases the brand’s latest styling cues. Notable features include a sleek closed-off front end, slim taillight strip, front bumper-integrated headlights, and a distinctive trapezoidal air intake. The vehicle also sports retractable door handles, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, and seamlessly integrated rear taillights.
The S09 offers a premium six-passenger layout inside, highlighted by an innovative sliding console that can move between the first and second rows.
The infotainment system, created in partnership with Huawei, has two 15.6-inch OLED screens and a 43-inch augmented reality head-up display.
The rear seats have a 21.4-inch 3K display and an electric table. The seats have heating, ventilation, and massage functions, further enhancing the luxury quotient.
The S09 is powered by an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) system, which combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor.
The base model has rear-wheel drive and produces 314 horsepower, while the upper model has an additional motor on the front wheels and generates a total output of 492 horsepower.
The vehicle has a 40.18 kWh LPF battery, enabling a pure electric range of up to 112 miles.
Both front and rear suspensions are independent, incorporating CDC and air suspension systems to optimize driving dynamics and ride comfort.
Pricing for the S09 will start at 350,000 yuan (approximately $50,000) when it launches in the first quarter of 2025. This is lower than competing models in the same class. The Genesis GV80, a comparable midsize luxury SUV, has a starting price of around $51,000 in the US market.
With the introduction of the S09, Deepal aims to strengthen its position in the luxury SUV market. It is betting on its competitive pricing and distinctive features to attract discerning consumers and expand its market share.
