Hyundai has officially announced the Ioniq 9, its first three-row electric SUV, and opened pre-orders in South Korea. This model generates significant interest thanks to its spacious interior, cutting-edge electrification technology, and competitive pricing. It also stands out by being larger than its competitors, including the Kia EV9, and offering exceptional value in the growing electric SUV market.

Ioniq 9: Larger, More Affordable, and High-Performance

The Ioniq 9 offers impressive dimensions, with a length of 5060 mm (199.2 inches) and a wheelbase of 3130 mm (123.2 inches), making it larger than the Kia EV9. Built on Hyundai’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, E-GMP, the Ioniq 9 delivers superior space utilization. The SUV has a 110.3 kWh battery, providing a maximum driving range of 532 km (331 miles) on a single charge. Furthermore, it supports 350kW ultra-fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 10-80% in just 24 minutes, making it an efficient choice for long-distance drives.

Price Competitiveness in the SUV Market

The Ioniq 9’s price range, from $46,390 to $53,831 for the 7-seater 2WD model, makes it a more affordable alternative to other electric and hybrid SUVs, including the Kia EV9 and the Palisade Hybrid Full Package, which costs around $49,396. This competitive pricing, along with savings on fuel costs and government subsidies, makes the Ioniq 9 an attractive option for consumers seeking a balance of performance and affordability in the electric SUV segment.

Industry insiders have noted that the Ioniq 9 could set a new standard in the rapidly expanding electric SUV market, combining value and performance with eco-friendly advantages that make electric vehicles more appealing than their internal combustion engine counterparts.

Luxury Design and Advanced Features

The Ioniq 9 boasts an aerodynamic exterior design that reflects its modern, high-tech focus. Inside, the SUV features a luxurious interior with Nappa leather on the first and second-row seats and a fully automatic reclining function in the upper trim. It is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a large display, emphasizing the advanced technology that Hyundai is known for.

Standard ADAS features prioritize safety and convenience, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring—these features are available from the base trim onward.

Consumer Reactions: Excitement Mixed with Concerns

While excitement is building around the Ioniq 9, consumer reactions have been mixed. Online communities are enthusiastic, with many preferring the Ioniq 9 over the Palisade Hybrid due to its electric vehicle benefits, such as zero emissions and lower operating costs. However, some concerns have been raised regarding the availability of charging infrastructure and the battery’s durability, issues that still weigh on potential EV buyers.

Hyundai is conducting pre-orders before the official launch, which is expected in the first half of this year. As the electric vehicle market expands, all eyes are on the Ioniq 9 to see if it can establish itself as a dominant player in the large electric SUV segment in South Korea and beyond.
