A classic Mercedes-Benz recently appeared on a used car marketplace, catching the attention of car enthusiasts. The vehicle is a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL, a premium classic sedan based on the W108 body. This model is rare worldwide, and instances of it appearing on the market in South Korea are incredibly scarce.

The listed price for this car is 102.3 million KRW (approximately 72,000 USD). The seller highlights its history, noting that the vehicle was once owned by a Samsung affiliate, and mentions that 99 million KRW (approximately 69,600 USD) was invested in restoring it. With a low mileage of just 32,186 km (9,974 miles), it is reportedly the lowest-mileage example of this model currently registered in South Korea.

Beyond a Classic: A Rare Treasure

The 300 SEL represents a time when Mercedes-Benz showcased its engineering excellence in the full-size sedan market. The vehicle now available for sale is a 1973 model that high-ranking officials favored at the time. What sets this particular car apart is the inclusion of air suspension, making it the only one of its kind in the world, further increasing its rarity.

According to the seller, the car underwent a complete restoration at Namoo Motors in Seoul, followed by additional refinements. The restoration cost alone was approximately 99 million KRW (approximately 69,600 USD), ensuring the vehicle is restored to near-new condition. It also features rare whitewall tires not commonly seen in South Korea, enhancing its classic appeal.

This vehicle goes beyond a simply restored car. Its exterior and interior were carefully preserved, and the driving experience was meticulously maintained. The seller stated that this vehicle has the shortest mileage among all registered 300 SELs in the country. A lot of care went into this car, and it is hoped that the buyer will appreciate its value.

An Impressive Presence, Sparking Interest

Once the listing for the vehicle was shared in online communities, the response was immediate. Many users praised its presence and elegance, with some commenting that they understood why people are drawn to classic cars. Others expressed discontent with modern electric vehicles and were more interested in experiencing this car. Some even went as far as to call it more of an art piece than a used car.

The Mercedes-Benz W108 series is still in high demand due to its robust design, large displacement engine, and luxurious interior finishes. It is frequently sold at high prices in auction markets, with restored models sometimes fetching millions. This particular vehicle was in excellent condition and even considered worthy of auction.

However, despite the interest, the vehicle has not sold after a month. The current insurance system, which doesn’t fully account for the actual value of classic cars, leaves the owner responsible for any accidents, making it a risk for potential buyers. As a result, the market for classic cars in Korea remains much smaller compared to international markets, and it remains to be seen when a buyer will come forward.
