Russian automaker Sollers has started producing new ST6 and ST8 pickup truck models. The models will be made at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ), and Sollers plans to deploy the latest production lines to maximize efficiency.

Sollers has introduced a state-of-the-art 130-meter (426.5 feet) welding line and a new chassis assembly line to streamline manufacturing. While the vehicle assembly shares the existing UAZ production line, final assembly for the ST6 and ST8 will take place on a newly installed, dedicated line. Additionally, Sollers has integrated advanced IT systems to manage logistics, production, and quality control, optimizing the overall production flow.

Engine Options and Advanced Safety Features for ST6 and ST8 Models

The ST6 and ST8 models will have various engine options for different performance needs. The ST6 will feature a 136-horsepower 2.0L diesel engine, a 176-horsepower 2.0L gasoline turbo engine, and a 204-horsepower 2.4L gasoline engine. All models will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission produced in-house in Russia.

For the ST8, Sollers emphasizes high-end specifications, including a minimum ground clearance of 210 mm (8.3 inches) and a load capacity of 900 kg (1,984 pounds). This makes the ST8 highly practical for various environments while offering the latest safety systems and electronic control technologies for a stable and secure driving experience. These features aim to provide consumers with a reliable and versatile vehicle suited for harsh conditions.

Economic Impact of New Production Facility

Ulyanovsk Governor Alexei Russkikh said that the launch of the new plant will positively impact the local economy. “In the past two years, Sollers has launched several large-scale investment projects, which have led to the creation of jobs and the modernization of production lines,” he explained. He added that the state will continue to support Sollers’ growth and the development of the local economy.

Sollers’s production of the new pickup truck is being interpreted as an essential step toward domestic production in the Russian automobile industry. The Russian government actively promotes import substitution and domestic production, enhancing the industry’s competitiveness. This new pickup truck’s production is expected to strengthen Russia’s domestically produced vehicles significantly.

The new ST6 and ST8 are scheduled to begin full-scale sales in 2025. These models are said to be sold in Russian and global markets.
