Polestar has unveiled its latest iteration of the Polestar 2, continuing its strategy of yearly enhancements since the model’s debut in 2019. With each update, the Swedish EV brand has focused on refining the user experience and integrating advanced technologies. The 2026 version showcases a more premium design, cutting-edge features, and subtle performance upgrades, positioning it as a serious competitor in the luxury EV segment.
Snapdragon Chip Enhances In-Car Connectivity
Upgraded Battery Improves Range and Consistency
A major highlight of the 2026 model is the inclusion of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon processor. This chipset delivers faster response times, smoother infotainment operation, and improved connectivity. According to Polestar, the upgrade elevates user experience to match that of its most recent models. Drivers can also opt for a high-end 1,350-watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system featuring 14 strategically placed speakers, providing richer sound clarity and minimizing distortion.
Polestar has transitioned from LG’s 69 kWh battery to a new 70 kWh unit supplied by CATL, one of China’s leading battery manufacturers. This results in a modest yet meaningful range increase, reaching up to 554 km (344 miles) on the WLTP cycle. Though the improvement over the previous model’s 546 km is minor, it enhances confidence for long-distance travel. The CATL battery is expected to be used across multiple global markets, including Australia, ensuring consistent performance worldwide.
Plug & Charge Feature Simplifies Charging Process
Standing Apart from Tesla with Premium Focus
The Polestar 2 now supports Plug & Charge, first introduced with the Polestar 3. This feature allows drivers to connect the vehicle to a compatible public charger and have authentication and payment processed automatically, streamlining the EV charging experience. Aesthetic updates include a new exterior color, Dune, which offers a pearlescent sandy finish, and redesigned 20-inch alloy wheels as part of the performance package.
Although the Polestar 2 is often compared to Tesla’s Model 3, it carves out a distinct space with its Scandinavian design, upscale interior materials, and refined ride quality. While Tesla’s Model 3 Long Range boasts a higher maximum range of 495 km (308 miles) and a lower starting price of $44,130, Polestar’s base model starts at $62,400, justifying the premium with its material quality, comfort, and overall sophistication.

Polestar continues to emphasize a high-end user experience through interior enhancements. The Plus Pack includes bio-based seat materials and black ash trim, while the Prime Pack adds privacy glass and added conveniences. Although Tesla maintains a lead in charging infrastructure with its Supercharger network, Polestar aims to win customers seeking a more luxurious and calming driving experience.
The 2026 Polestar 2 is currently available for order in Europe, with plans to roll out in the U.S. and other regions later this year. A Polestar spokesperson noted that the vehicle represents more than just a hardware upgrade—it symbolizes a shift toward a lifestyle-centric EV market.
