Toyota’s Next Corolla Cross Is Coming—and It Looks Nothing Like You’d Expect

Toyota prepares to launch the next generation of its popular compact SUV, the Corolla Cross. Based on recent international reports and concept renderings, the new Corolla Cross will feature significant design and market appeal upgrades. The current model has already gained significant popularity in North America and Southeast Asia. With the upcoming release of the new model, tension is rising in the global SUV market.

Particularly noteworthy is the expected connection with the next-generation Toyota Corolla sedan, which will be released in the same year. Both models are expected to incorporate Toyota’s latest design language, highlighted by a bold front-end redesign and a refined rear profile.

Next-Gen Corolla Cross: A Fresh Design Approach

The upcoming Corolla Cross will adopt a sportier, more forward-looking design. Drawing inspiration from the new C-HR+ electric coupe, slim LED daytime running lights will dominate the front fascia, creating a more dynamic presence than its predecessor. The lower grille will be minimized, while new LED projector headlights will replace the side vents.

While maintaining familiar proportions, the side profile is expected to feature more refined character lines. The roofline will smoothly flow, emphasizing dynamism, while the rear overhang will be minimized, contributing to a more solid body ratio. These changes highlight Toyota’s aim to distinguish itself in the competitive compact SUV segment.

Significant changes are also expected at the rear. Slim LED taillights connected by a full-width LED light bar will create a sleek, modern look. The overall design aims to balance luxury and ruggedness. Inside, the car will likely feature the latest digital cluster and a large infotainment system.

Compact SUV Market Leader: Can It Raise the Bar?

While the powertrain details have yet to be officially revealed, the hybrid model is expected to be enhanced, with a hybrid and plug-in hybrid version likely targeting the North American market.

With design changes and improved features on the horizon, the new model is expected to change the competitive landscape significantly once it arrives. The official unveiling is anticipated as early as the second half of this year.

As the Corolla Cross has already established a dominant position in the SUV market, all eyes are on the new generation to see if it can surpass the current model’s success. The outcome of this launch will be closely watched.
