Chinese luxury automotive brand Hongqi unveiled its new off-roader at the Auto Shanghai 2025. The vehicle’s official name has not yet been confirmed. According to Hongqi, a global naming competition is currently underway.

The Hongqi off-roader is an electric model equipped with four motors. In China, the sales of hardcore off-roaders, especially those positioned in the mid-to-high-end segment, have been increasing at an annual rate of 30 percent. Additionally, over the past two years, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) have begun to establish themselves as mainstream powertrains.

Although Hongqi has not disclosed the name or technical specifications of the new off-roader, it has provided extensive details about its design concept. The Hongqi off-roader incorporates elements inspired by ancient Chinese architecture. For the first time, it also applies a traditional woodworking joinery technique that combines multiple parts without the use of nails. A geometric grille, round headlights resembling the structure of human eyes, and a red Hongqi brand logo integrated into a strip connecting the grille and hood all contribute to a cohesive design.

On the technology front, the vehicle is equipped with a LiDAR unit on the roof and cameras mounted on the front fenders. Hongqi claims that these features enable advanced driving assistance capabilities beyond those offered by other brands.

The Hongqi off-roader is powered by a self-developed four-motor system, allowing it to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (60 mph) in just 4 seconds. Combined with triple differential locks, Hongqi asserts that the vehicle can conquer any off-road terrain.
