Jeep’s flagship SUV, the Grand Cherokee, is entering a new development phase. A recently revealed rendering of the next-generation model showcases a bold exterior redesign and highlights the brand’s electrification strategy. As a long-standing player in the global SUV market, Jeep is prepared to reassert its presence in the SUV segment with this update.

Blending legacy with innovation, the new Cherokee evolves into a plug-in hybrid model branded as the 4xe. Jeep is redefining its rugged heritage by shifting toward a premium, electrified SUV identity as the automotive industry leans further into eco-conscious technologies.

The Next-Generation Cherokee Reborn as a Plug-In Hybrid

The next-generation Cherokee has undergone significant updates, resembling more of a full redesign than just a facelift. The front features sleek LED headlights and a vertical seven-slot grille, creating a more refined and modern appearance. The sharp lines on the sides, large wheels, and the rear light bar connecting the taillights strongly convey the impression of a luxury SUV.

The most notable change lies in the adoption of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Marked by the ‘4xe’ badge, this shift from internal combustion to electrified mobility supports city commuting and longer trips. It offers a practical solution for drivers looking to lower emissions without compromising off-road capability.

The interior layout is also noteworthy. The Cherokee features a more spacious interior than its predecessor. A wide-format digital display and familiar physical controls enhance usability, while improvements to second-row seating and cargo space make it a stronger option for families.

Jeep’s Electrification Roadmap Starts Here

This move by Jeep carries greater significance than a typical model update. As the brand’s flagship, the Grand Cherokee serves as a guidepost for Jeep’s overall strategic direction, and its electrification underscores a long-term commitment to sustainability. The same electrification technology will gradually expand to other upcoming SUV models in Jeep’s lineup.

With emissions regulations becoming more stringent across Europe and Asia, the Cherokee 4xe is positioned as a key global model. Combining premium styling, an environmentally friendly powertrain, and proven off-road capabilities, it is expected to compete with models like the Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, and Ford Explorer.

Meanwhile, Jeep is preparing to launch the next-generation Compass. This move aims to enhance the brand’s competitiveness in the small SUV market and support its broader electrification strategy. Together, the Grand Cherokee and Compass represent Jeep’s efforts to reestablish itself at the core of the modern SUV market.
