The new model has exceeded expectations. Despite mixed reactions to the official images, consumer sentiment shifted dramatically once real-life footage and detailed specifications were released.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan has undergone a complete overhaul in design, interior layout, driving performance, and safety features.

While the price has slightly increased, its improved specifications significantly boost its overall value. With this new model, Volkswagen aims to cement the Tiguan’s image as a value-driven premium SUV.

Stronger, More Refined Design

The new Tiguan’s exterior design is sharper and more angular, offering a sportier and more robust impression. Sleek LED headlamps and a front light bar set the tone, enhancing the model’s overall sophistication.

The body has been slightly extended, and the color-matched side mirrors and silver roof rails create a harmonious look. Depending on the trim, wheel sizes range from 17 to 20 inches.

The SE R-Line Black model adds sporty touches like black roof rails, black wheels, and a panoramic sunroof, expanding consumer choice.

The interior has been restructured around digital convenience, featuring a standard 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Updated software and a touch-based climate control system bring a modern and intuitive user experience.

More Power, Less Weight

The 2025 Tiguan also shows noticeable performance improvements. Powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine, it now delivers 201 horsepower—17 more than its predecessor—and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission for smooth driving and strong acceleration.

The vehicle is approximately 77 kilograms lighter than before, which is expected to contribute to improved fuel efficiency. The base model comes with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available for an additional $1,480.

A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version has also been added to the lineup. It combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor and can travel up to 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) on electric power alone.

Premium-Level Safety and Convenience Features

All trims come standard with Volkswagen’s advanced driver assistance system, IQ. Drive includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, emergency automatic braking, Travel Assist, and automatic parking assist—features consistent with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving.

Additional convenience features include a wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, and a power tailgate.

Higher trims boast premium additions such as Varena leather seats with massage functions, 30-color ambient lighting, and a Harman Kardon audio system, bringing the Tiguan into line with high-end SUVs.

Pricing and Consumer Reactions

The base Tiguan S starts at approximately $29,200, with the top trim priced at around $39,410. This reflects an increase of about $610 compared to the previous model.

Consumer reactions have mainly been positive. Many have praised the improved in-person design and more upscale interior. However, some noted dissatisfaction with the touch-based climate controls and the lack of detailed information about the gear selector.

Volkswagen stated that the new Tiguan represents a complete package in terms of design and functionality. It aims to position the model as a premium SUV at a reasonable price point.
